London, London, London. Here I am again! After leaving this great city to go explore some warmer destinations, I am back for the jolliest time of the year: Christmas!
The London Eye and the Tower Bridge still stand stately next to the Thames, but in the inner city lots has already changed again.
It’s been a couple of years. Meanwhile, London got plagued by riots and terroristic activities. But the capital city of England looks stronger than ever!
Christmas time 2015 is extraordinary warm. With temperatures that almost hit fifteen degrees celcius (59°F), you wouldn’t expect that it already is december! Luckily, the whole city is dressed in beautiful Christmas decorations and the atmosphere is very Christmassy too. At evenings, all of it gets even more intense when the joyful lights flicker and the historical buildings boom Christmas Carols out of their speakers. I can’t describe it any other way, but this cosiness seems to come right out of a Harry Potter movie.
23d of december, right before Christmas eve I decided to go visit London a little already. Around 4 PM it already started to get dark, and the christmas light eagerly started popping out.
When I walked on the Millennium Bridge, I could feel the Christmas Atmosphere everywhere! Left of me, there were plenty of Christmas stalls, while right I could see the majestic Big Ben. What on earth would I want more at this particular moment?!
It was a quite warm day, but it still is winter. When the sun is completely gone, it starts to cool off quite quickly in London. Time to go warm myself up!
You’ve obviously heard of top chefs like Jamie Oliver. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that London has some of the best food in the world. And I think I accidentally walked into one of these places together with my mum.
From our earlier trips to the UK, we knew how addicting Sticky Toffee Pudding could be as a dessert. The whole day already, we had been searching for this British delicacy and when we arrived very close to Westminster Abbey, we finally saw the yummy dessert being served!
The Blue boar welcomed us open armed with its delicious and addicting choice of desserts. With a hot chocolate and a coffee we ordered one sticky toffee pudding and one bread and pudding. A place to keep in mind when you visit London, because… OH MY GOD. Yes, the dessert was that good!
5:30 PM already. Warmed up and still enjoying our extreme calories intake, we grabbed our coats to go to our next destination.
On Christmas eve you of course need to do something. My uncle told us that the Royal Albert Hall gave great christmas concerts. For 35 pounds a person we booked a ticket to go listen to (and sing along!) with Christmas Carols. With more than six thousand people in the beautiful building, this was one of the most unique christmas eve’s I had ever experienced.
Beautiful carols and costumes which made me thing of Mozart. Followed by a beautiful reading of “A Christmas Carol” from Charles Dickens.
Christmas day itself, there wasn’t much to do in London. But that wasn’t necessary either, because Christmas does mean you should spend time with your families.
After a crazy taxi ride, we finally arrived at our hotel in South-London. Where -after a while- the rest of the family also greeted us with jolly christmas greetings.
Merry christmas everyone!
