Sweden > Copenhagen

From the central station in Stockholm I left at 08:21 AM towards Copenhagen. The very comfortable trains have excellent Wi-Fi and offer an amazing view at the surrounding landscapes. Up and down you go through the mountains of Sweden and Copenhagen.

For everyone who feels nauseous on trains, there is no need to worry. I see plenty of barf bags (or trash bags?) for every passenger.

While new people hop on and off the train, my eyes rest fixed at the beautiful white landscape and the frozen lakes and ponds we whizz by.
Only a couple of minutes later, the soothing landscape makes me feel completely relaxed and lets me fall asleep. Only five hours later, I wake up again. Just in time to get off in the capital of Denmark: Copenhagen.

With a backpack of 15 kilograms and another small backpack bound around my waist, I walk to the arrival hall from Copenhagen Central.
At 2 PM the owner of the apartment we booked via Airbnb would greet us there. So we had about half an hour to get there.

A ticket for the public transportation is even more expensive than in Stockholm. Three euro for one zone and a lot more if you do more zones. The 72 hour card is cheapest and costs us about twenty euro a person.

Today doesn’t start well in Copenhagen. The line for the ticket machines is incredibly long, and when it’s finally our turn there seems to be a problem with paying by card. Around us we hear a lot of moaning, nagging and whining. So we clearly are not the only ones…

The ATM that is closest to the central station is another five minutes walking and once we arrive there, it of course doesn’t work as well. This must be a joke.
Well… Up to the next one. And how could it be any different… There too, we get the message that the ATM is out of order.

Another five minutes further away, we finally find a working ATM that is able to give us plenty of Danish Kroners. By just walking outside in search for a working ATM, I already noticed how different Copenhagen was in comparison to Sweden. It’s a lot colder. Quite weird, because it is located a couple of hundred kilometers more to the south ànd in close proximity to the beach…

What I noticed most of all though, was the view of the city. Copenhagen is a little untended. On the streets, I can see a lot of trash, some of the garbage bins are completely full and the people don’t seem to care really.

Out of the negative temperatures and with half an hour delay we finally get on the bus. The not so friendly bus driver brings us to our final destination in about half an hour, where it is even more dirty than at the central station.

While driving, I got a new insight about Copenhagen. For one reason or another, it makes me think of a combination of Belgium and Holland. To be more specific: a mix of Amsterdam and Brussels.

When we arrive in our apartment, we refresh ourselves a little and plan to go do some sightseeing right away. It already is 4:30 PM and it already is pitch black outside. The temperatures have even dropped a few degrees more and our faces get whipped by the icy winds.

So far, Copenhagen looks quite beautiful and a lot bigger than expected.
Maybe… The people from Copenhagen will get friendly tomorrow. Maybe I just didn’t sleep enough today…
