After celebrating christmas in London with family, it is time for me and my mum to see some snow. Me and my mum did a little side trip to Sweden. Stockholm to be more precise. A place in the north that I never saw before.
The plane is about to land and we are now circling above Stockholm. It’s only half past five, but it looks a lot later in Sweden already. The sky is pitch black.
The complete darkness make me, and my mother, doubt when we watch through the little window.
“Is that snow?”
“No, I think it’s just water.”
“Yes?”
“No! It’s snow!”
There was snow! A lot of snow! Only a week ago, I heard it was over 15°C (59°F) in Stockholm. So I didn’t really expect to see this much snow. Winter really started!
With Ryanair we land in Stockholm Skavsta. A small airport which is located very far from the city center.
Luckily, we booked the Flygbussarna tickets to travel to the central station in Stockholm in advance. Once we got off the plane and made the necessary selfies, there are lots of people trying to get a ticket before the bus leaves us waiting in the cold. Luckily we didn’t have that problem!
The drive from Skavsta to the Central Station of Stockholm takes about one hour and a half. Too bad that it’s already completely dark outside, because now we can’t see a lot of the surrounding landscapes. The busses are very comfortanle and have descent wifi. Time to chat a little with friends and family.
When we arrive in Stockholm, finally, everything becomes quite clear very easily. The big building before us is the central station of Stockholm. From here, you basically can get anywhere in Sweden.
We literally are inside the building for two minutes when the fire alarms go off. Stores close their doors fast and everyone is asked to go outside as quick as possible.
Later, I heard that the Swedes are very scared (maybe a little paranoid even) of potential terrorist attacks. The attacks in Paris are still freshly engraved in many people’s minds obviously…
It’s already 6 PM and our stomachs are crying out loud for some food. Let’s immediately do it right and get some of the Swedish delicacies! I choose for the delicious meat balls made famous by Ikea: Kötbullar!
Freshly made, they (of course) are even better. Before our main dish is served, the very friendly woman gives us a couple of delicious pieces of bread (HMMM!), followed by puree, kötbullar and linden berries
I am stuffed! My mum is too, but she can’t fight herself and takes a small dessert.
For the last time this week, we take our luggage and head to the Rotebro Station, a little outside of the city center. There I have a friend, who kindly offered to share his place with us.
